Fossil News Submission Guidelines

Fossil News welcomes unsolicited manuscripts on any paleontological topic. By reading over the articles from past issues, you should be able to get a good idea of the types of things we publish. If you think it's interesting, chances are we do, too.

HOWEVER, before you read any further, there are a few things we CANNOT accept:

We maintain a Mac-friendly, Microsoft-free workplace so submissions must accommodate this environment.

1. Submit articles by email (preferred) or snail mail to editor at address on home page. We can accept most formats not specifically excluded above, but we prefer .txt or .rtf attachments or simply pasting the text into the body of an email; this avoids translation problems.

2. VERY IMPORTANT: Submit text and illustrations separately. Do not embed illustrations into the body of the document! This gives our translation program conniptions and results in page upon page of gobbledygook! If you wish to suggest where certain illustrations might best go, simply put a note "figure 1 here" etc. in the text. We will try to honor your wishes, but please be aware that for editorial and layout reasons this may not always be possible.

3. Illustrations: digital photos should be taken at the best quality your camera can do and sent just as they come from the camera unless you are proficient at digital editing; Kodaks and artwork should be scanned at 300dpi and saved as .jpg files (in color unless the original is not). Digital images may be emailed or burned to a CD and mailed. PC users please note: if sending a CD, use cross-platform or ISO 9660 formatting so a Mac can read it!

4. Typed hard copy and Kodaks or drawings are also acceptable. It is always a good idea to send a hard copy of digital files as insurance, anyway.
